Blog Post

Today was a busy day. There was no school for the kids and I had lots of appointments to accomplish. We got Cullen and Asher's haircuts out of the way. It is really nice to have April Kelly at Hair Razors in Jeremy's building now. It's so conveinent! Then I had to Cullen and Eden to Dr. Smith for well child checks. Eden weighed in at 15.07 pounds and was 26.5 inches long.

I wrote that last paragraph on Monday. Today is Thursday. This week has been busy and sick. sick and busy. I'm tired. The house is destroyed. And more snow is on the way. This is all just great news.

Frickin Formula

I HATE formula!  I am still battling with trying to feed Eden.  I feel like a complete and utter(udder haha) failure.  Who in their right mind would choose to feed a newborn human something that is produced in a factory somewhere under who knows what kind of conditions?!?!?!  Just a couple months ago all the similac was recalled because there were beetles in the formula!!!! Frickin BEETLES!!!!  I know darn well that beetles do NOT come out of my boobs!  We were given boobs for one reason.....and dang it, I'm gonna make mine work right.  I have been ripping Eden off!  I've been giving her Enfamil.  Crap Almighty!  That's another thing.......I saw another woman there at the store comparing the two products of the generic formula verses the name brand and she went with the generic!!! Just because it's the same ingredient on the label doesn't mean it's actually the same ingredient in the can.  Think about it this way.....you can have two cows.....one fed the natural way in a field....the other fed the unnatural way, injected with hormones, and horrible things.....maybe it has mad cow disease?!?!?  Who knows?!?!?!  But,the labels with both still say beef, won't they!??!?!  ARGH!!!

The Invisible Mother

A short story that I read recently.......this is why I am a stay at home mom.

Invisible Mother

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?' Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom.
Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more! Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'
Some days I'm a crystal ball; 'Where's my other sock?, Where's my phone?, What's for dinner?'
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history, music and literature -but now, they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England.  She had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when she turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.' It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe . I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: 'With admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'
In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: 1) No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. 2) These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. 3) They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. 4) The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.
A story of legend in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof, No one will ever see it And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was Almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, no Cub Scout meeting, no last minute errand is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for 3 hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That would mean I'd built a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, he'd say, 'You're gonna love it there...'
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible mothers.
Thank you to all the Moms who are looking down and smiling at the cathedrals they helped to build.

The Will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.
To all the wonderful mothers out there!! God bless and keep you.

This Is My Post

Okay, that's it!  I'm throwing in the towel and giving in to the sickness!  ARgh!!!!!!  I do think I got the better of it though....for the record!  Tristan is awesome.  Just so everyone knows.  I am really proud of the way he is turning out!  He has been cooking for all the invalids lately.  He goes to my mom's house and makes her grilled cheese and egg salad sandwiches and now he's doing it here.  Last night he and Jeremy made supper as I was confined to the bed.  They made tomato soup, grilled cheese, and chicken noodle soup.  Tristan brought me some apple juice and a small three musketeers.  Cedric was really helpful too!  He brought me part of his grilled cheese and both of them rubbed my back and feet!  They are awesome!

Something that has been bothering me lately is the stupid names I see out there.  I am all for unique names and family names and such things but, the level of brain power that some people are operating at is amazing.  I hate when people have a decent name and screw it up with some oddball version of spelling it.  For example I saw a kid whose name was Taylor.  But, the parents decided in a stroke of brilliance that one vowel wasn't enough for their long a sound.  They had to spell it Taiylor.....wtf????  I could almost see spelling it Tailor (like an actual Tailor....dumb but at least correct.) But, Taiylor?!?!?!?  OR when someone spells something one way but pronounces it another way.  Example:  someone else I know just named their kid Kalla.  Okay, one would think that is easy enough.  But, NO, it's pronounced Kaya!!!  $!*&6%%#@!!*  I get that it might make sense if we were speaking spanish or italian or something but we are not.  WE are speaking English!!! Then those people will get angry when other people constantly get their kid's name wrong!  Dumb.  Just dumb.  I will just stop right there but, good grief.

The boys got out of school early today and it was so nice out they played outside from noon until six!  Tristan found out that a friend from school lives just down the street from us and they played all day.  They wanted to spend the night there but, I don't know anything about any of them so I said to wait until another night.  The Shawn kid seems good enough.  He was very polite and introduced himself to me.  He talked a lot to me too.  I'm glad that they had a chance to get outside and play....and to make some new friends.  Now, they all want to go to the open skate night tomorrow at the skating rink.  I might have to let them do that!

A note about Valentine's Day.  It was awesome!  I love that man of mine!  I'm pretty dang sure that I am the luckiest girl on the planet to have found someone as great as Jeremy that will actually put up with me and my weird self.

New thing of the day:  Today I learned that it is possible to paint one's own body with fecal matter.  Just stick your fingers in some poop and go for it!

Where Did Jeremy Go?

I just re-read my post about the good works chart....it made me laugh until I cried!!! Obviously I didn't proofread that well at all!  Bahahahahaha!  I'll have to fix that.
I'm kind a slightly hooked on the new show on AMC, The Walking Dead.  The season for it was only 6 episodes long and then we have to wait all the way until Next October to see the next season of it.  I'm having withdrawls.  I might have to get the books.

Mom Update Again

Well, my mom got all her staples out.  But is still taped together.  She had five different incisions.  She has to use a walker but is hoping that in time she will be able to have full use of her leg once again.  Tristan and Cedric have been over to her house a couple different times to help her with the dogs and whatever she needs.

Sorry with Batman

Me, Asher, and Eden played Sorry one day in my bedroom.  I thought it was great that Asher had to wear his Batman hat for the game!  I've been cleaning and clearing the upstairs to get the house all ready for some improvements!  Yay!

The Good Works Chart

Well that's a crappy picture.  Dang it.  Oh well I will take a better picture when I take a picture I make a better chart.  I bought a black poster board and a white sharpie thinking that it would look really cool.  But the white sharpie is more like a crayon and so my lines got all messed up and looked not so neat.  But anyway...they get a star for whatever chore they do...or they can be nice and get a star too......then when they get to a white square they can choose between one hour of gaming on anything console or computer....or a prize from the prize box!  When they fill a whole line full of stars then they can have some allowance.....like five bucks maybe.  And it's actually working!   Since I took all electronics away they have actually been playing together more and not arguing as much.  Oh it still happens for sure but at least they are not glued to a screen!  On the snow days we played a lot of store and playdoh and war games.  The war games are the best.  They REALLY get involved in the story line of it all!

2011 Blizzard

So this is pretty early on.....a couple of inches on the ground

Little bit later....a couple more inches on the ground......

Morning after.....20-24 inches on the ground!!!

The great Blizzard of 2011!  haha!  We were fully prepared.  We had food, flashlights, candles, blankets, salt, shovels, etc. all ready to use!  I was so worried about losing power but, thanks heavens it didn't happen.  I was looking outside from my bedroom window at the trees blowing in the wind (gusts up to 45 mph) and I saw one half of town lose lights!  It was really weird because there was a big pop noise and the street lights and everything went out!  That's when I noticed that my lights were not out.....then after about a minutes I saw lights start to come back on.  The snow was blowing so hard at times that I couldn't see my neighbors houses.  Then I heard part of my roof come off!  Freaked me out!  Well, I guess I should say the shingles on my roof because they wood didn't come off.
Anyway, the storm was actually kinda fun!  The snow day before and after were kinda fun!  Then snow days 3 and 4 came and the fun kinda walked out the door and left.  And the stir crazies walked in!  LOL!  We made tigers blood snow ice cream.....want a good recipe for snow ice cream?  I will give you one.

Snow Ice Cream

8-10 cups of fresh snow
1-1 and 1/2 cans of sweetened condensed milk
(you can use fat free)
Any flavors you have on hand

Get the snow.  Stir in the milk and flavors.  Stir until cream and mixed well.  Easy Peasy.

The Crazies.....er...I Mean Stir Crazies

We're losing our marbles over here!  I'm sure everyone is going through it but, I'm going through it worse!!!  Bahahaha!  Seriously.  We have got the Sound of Music down pat though!  The kids keep running around saying "How do you solve a problem like Maria?"  and "kukoo"!  It's pretty awesome.  Yes, I do have some awesome kids!

So I have resorted to calculating my laundry costs.  I do SO much laundry it's just not even funny anymore.....k, so it never was funny but, you know what I mean.  So every other day I have figured that I do 9-10 loads of laundry.

  • 2 dark delicate
  • 1 light delicate
  • 2-3 dark regular
  • 1 jeans
  • 1 light regular
  • 1 white....sometimes 2
  • 1 random load like bedding or pillows or rugs or high chair covers....you get the point.
So this happens every other day.  That is 3-4 times a week.  That is like 40 loads of laundry a week!!!!!!!!

I told my mother that I should open up a laundromat.   She agreed.
Oh, just remembered all the pictures I have to upload from the Blizzard and other random crap that has happened or not happened the past week.  I'm gonna look back on this when I'm old and miss it apparently.  Note to self:  this is not something to miss.  Remember that.  And by this....I mean laundry and blizzards.

Stay tuned for another post later that will show my new Good Works Chart I made for the kids!  And it's really working!!!!  Can you believe it?!?!?!
