St. Louis Birthday Weekend

The weekend before last we took Tristan and Asher to St. Louis for the day for their birthdays.  We decided to go to the zoo and to the Science Center.  We started out bright and early and drove the three hours to St. Louis.  Asher complained the entire way.  He thought we were never going to get there.  Of course, Forest Park was the most crowded I have ever seen it that day too.   So, we parked a million miles away and walked to the zoo.  When we go to the zoo, Asher was NOT interested at all....in ANY of the
animals.....except......

these fish for about 15 seconds.........there was also a HUGE hippopotamus in water but, he was not impressed.  *sigh*

Tristan on the other hand was super excited about everything!!  He had his cell phone out taking pictures of every single animal he saw!!

They both wanted their picture taken in this cave.

So after seeing hardly any animals at all, Asher complained so much that he wanted to go play in the water table at the Science Center that we walked 30 minutes across Forest Park to the Science Center.  We told Tristan that we would go back to the zoo after we had finished at the Science Center.  We looked at stuff for a bit and bought our tickets to the Discovery Room where the water table is.  We decided to grab a quick bite to eat for lunch while we were waiting for our turn in the Discovery Room so we went down to the food court.  There was a small Pizza Hut that served personal pan pizzas, breadsticks, and salads.  We got some grubbage and sat ourselves down.  Asher then proceeds to tell us that this is the best thing to happen all day.....WHAT!?!?!?!  I about fell out of my chair.  Literally.  My chair was wobbly.  But, seriously, Pizza Hut??  The best part?? REALLY??
Whatever, onward and upward.

When we finally got our turn in the Discovery Room Asher played at the water table for exactly 15 seconds.  Yep.  You heard me right.  Then he went to this table that had paper, crayons, and scissors.  He sat down and colored....and cut.  Pretty much the whole time.  We paid extra for him to color and cut.  Yes, we did.  It made him happy, which made us happy.

Tristan on the other hand played at the water table a good portion of the time.  It is the coolest water table ever because it teaches the engineering of dams and what not.  So, there is a flow to it and you can divert it using the different sized blocks and make the flow faster or slower.

Then he learned how to use crutches.....

Some of Asher's cut creations.  We had to save these.
Funny story***
As we were sitting and coloring with Asher we could hear someone thumping on the Indian War drum or something over by the huge teepee.  Asher asked what that noise was and I replied that it was the Indian drums.  He looked at me dead serious and asked "Are they gonna come kill us?"  Bahahahah!  Jeremy made a few funny quips that had us all busting a gut!  Oh, it was so funny.

We went downstairs and explored.  This dinosaur moves and roars and all that good stuff.  Asher was CONVINCED it was a real dinosaur.  LOL!  It was so cute because he wouldn't go near it at all and kept running past it so it wouldn't "get" him!  They got to dig in the archeology site as well...they both enjoyed that!!

There was this booth you could pay(of course) to get into and it would simulate a tornado.  Tristan and I did it.  Asher wouldn't get in.  It was fun but really short lived.

After having a bad mom moment in the car and Asher and I both crying we made it back to the zoo.  This time instead of hiking across the park we paid the absurd parking fee for the lot right across from the zoo entrance.  Sheesh!  Things went much better this time.  Asher's feet wore out (because he wore his flip flops after I told him over and over not to) but, it turned out good.  Tristan and Jeremy went to look at the giraffes, lions, things like that....and Asher and I got a little quiet break to ourselves.  We found a little table and each got an icee to drink.  While we were chatting at the table a bee seemed to become infatuated with Asher.  He jumped up and was doing his little Asher dance to try to get it away but, the bee stuck right close to him no matter what he did.  Then he made the comment "Maybe that bee is following me around with a magic remote!"  as he was making playstation controller movements with his hands!!  OMG, I was rolling!  I had to text it to Jeremy so I wouldn't forget it.

The train ride around the park was fun!  There are four depots around the park and we stopped at each one.  We sat in the very back seat so the conductor let Asher say the "All Aboard!" over the loud speaker each time we left the station!  He was shy at first...I had to say it with him the first time but, by the last time he was perfect and doing it all by himself!  He was pretty proud of himself and didn't want to get off the train! lol!

We went to Red Robin(Yum!) for supper.  All of us loved our food.
And the bottomless fries!!!

As we were leaving I grabbed Asher's hand and told him to skip with me to the car.  We started skipping and laughing and got to laughing so hard that he goes: " Stop skipping, it's making me fart!!"  Ahhh, as much as he frustrated me that day, he made laugh so much too!  On the ride home we played the I'm going camping ABC game.....we all loved it!  And made it all the way to the end of the alphabet....unheard of! lol!
