My "Summer Job"

I DID IT!!!!!  I AM DONE WITH SUMMER BALL PHOTOS!!!!

(Well, I must add a stupid disclosure here that I'm not actually done quite yet....but, I only have to package(which does take a crazy amount of time even though it doesn't sound like it would) the last four teams when they arrive and then deliver to the coaches for distribution.)

So, I was asked to do the  team photos for the Nauvoo Athletic Association again this year.  I did ten teams with kids ranging from 4-16.  It a large task for one person.  But, one I was looking forward to with excitement.  I spent some time in February, March, and April getting nice order forms made that had a perforated, tear off envelope to put payment in, for a more streamlined order form and a professional look.  I worked out different print packages for people to choose from, set up an online store, designed new marketing materials, and worked on the "business" part of my business so that I would be fully prepared for the summer photos.  It was all going according to my plan until I began to realize that my contact for the NAA wasn't actually conveying anything to the rest of the NAA or the coaches.  Whatever.  It has all ended up working out in the end but, again, next year, I will run things differently or just won't do it, I guess.

I spent all of June and July working on these photos and it has been a ton of work.  Work that I enjoy.  Work that brings money into our house of NINE people.  I think sometimes people forget that Jeremy and I both are entrepreneurs, we own TWO business, have SEVEN kids, are paying double on most home bills (due to owning one and renting one), and also have business expenses on top of all that as well, and we are solely responsible for how much money we make.  We don't get a paycheck.  I know most people don't own their own business, let alone two, so maybe it is hard to relate to.  But, is is hard.  There is so much more behind the scenes stuff that people never see.  I just think it is interesting that when ever anyone else has work(where they work for someone else), it is fine and dandy because you know, it's their JOB, and they have to go because they have to make money.  But, if Jeremy and I get babysitting for our JOBS or work strange hours, we are told that we are not good parents, or people act like we never see our kids or don't love them or something.  Ridiculous, of course. I just need to learn to block these stupid comments out of my head but, that has always been something that is hard for me, I feel too much, and take too much to heart.  Anyway, we also had a lot of help with our kiddos which I am super duper grateful for!! :)  I still need to figure something out for a regular sitter for Vivi during the school year, once I am working again but, gonna try to block that out until later,,,,,I don't want my head clouded with any more than it already has stuffed into it. Haha!

Something that I love about Jeremy and I both owning our own businesses is that we can take time off when we want.....which is exactly what we are going to do.  Tomorrow morning, we leave bright and early for our camping adventure!! I cannot wait!!! I want to sit back, block all the stupids out of my life, and enjoy my family, myself, and nature.  I don't plan on doing any more photo sessions until after school starts again.  August is going to be packed full of adventure and fun as well so best make time for it, lol!

Life Right Now

Jeremy and I have been taking half a day off on Wednesdays to go to the Carthage house and work on it until it is done.  It is coming together slowly but, surely.  We have/are painting every single nook and cranny in the entire house. (well, maybe not every nook and cranny....but, pretty dang close!) Yesterday I started in on trim and oh my goodness, it is going to take me YEARS to finish, lol!  But, it is looking sooooooo much better! It is amazing what paint can do!  I wish I had taken before and after pics.  When we are all done, we want to take everyone over to see what we did, lol!  I have to say that we are pretty proud of ourselves. *pats self on back* And if we get to do to the steps what we want to do to them, I will be thrilled!  There are some things we just can't fix right now or ever so what will be, will be. But, I sure hope this house sells for the price we want.  Knowing that we can swing two house payments and double payments on most utility bills is kind of comforting in a weird way, lol.  We certainly don't like doing it, and could definitely find better uses for the money but, there was a time when I thought we would never get to a point like this.
But, I have to also say that we couldn't do this without my mom and Jeremy's mom.  They have been instrumental in allowing us the time to get this big project done by helping with kids and time.  I literally feel like I have never been so busy in my whole life!  We are constantly do/or worrying about doing something.

Tristan and Cedric have been working for Jeremy this summer at his store.  He wants to start teaching them more so they can help out with the store and earn some money.  Tristan also took the initiative and applied for a job at Pete's Place here in Nauvoo.  And....he got the job!! Awesome!  He is happy to be working there too!  Good job, Tristan!

I am now affiliated with a professional print lab for professional photographers!  Things are going really good with my business and I am excited about the future!  I will complete tomorrow a huge endeavor that I was asked to do this summer, taking team and individual photos of the Nauvoo Athletic Association's summer ball teams.  They had a total of 8 teams and I did photos for 7 of them.  It was so much fun!  I just made up four packages that they could choose from with some a la carte items as well and went from there.  I learned a lot and if I am asked next year or by someone else, I will definitely do things a little differently but, it was a great learning experience.  I am also excited about getting new equipment.  I plan on upgrading my camera to the next level.  I have it all picked out.  The body of the camera alone is $2400.  It is expensive but, it is so going to be worth it! I CANNOT wait, lol!  I am also going to get a new monitor that is specifically designed for photographers to get the best true colors and quality out of the pictures.
I also have quite a few people asking me about senior pictures.  This fall should be quite busy with photos as well.  I love it!!!!!

Eden is getting scheduled for surgery on her mouth in either August or September.  We had two options with her since we have no dental insurance.  The first option was cheaper but, more traumatizing for Eden.  The second is much more expensive but, much easier on Eden.  We chose the second option.  I don't like that she will be completely under or what is going to happen but, it does need to be done.  I am hoping that the house sells really fast because this is one of those things that the extra house money would be perfect for!  The whole thing is going to cost more than our cars. Good grief.

Vivianne is walking all around now.  She jabbers all the time and has so much to say!  One of the best parts of our day is when Jeremy is getting ready to leave for work.  When Jeremy says that he is going to leave she automatically starts waving, blowing kisses, and saying bye-bye!  It is freaking adorable!  We stand at the door and wave until Daddy is in the car.  And when she sees us come back from somewhere it is just as cute!!  She has an infectious smile that just doesn't quit.  Everyone gets the biggest kick out of every little thing she does.  She is pure joy.

We have not been doing Asher's meds much this summer.  I really don't like him being on the medicine.  It does help for when he is at school.  I wish I could homeschool again.  I am considering it but, I really don't think I can do it for at least another year.  Once we own this house and maybe have added on which, we want to do asap.  But, Asher seems to be doing really well without it most of the time.  I have been changing my approach with the kids lately. I felt like all I was ever saying to them was no. Or shut up.  Or telling them to stop or saying how annoying they were.  Not very uplifting stuff.  I was feeling overwhelmed with everything and taking it out on them.  I was even annoying myself.  When I stopped to think about why the kids were being so mean or misbehaving, it made me realize that maybe I am part of the problem.  If all you ever hear is someone yelling at you, then it can't make you want to be a very happy, kind person.  I am doing my very best to be patient and understanding instead of quick to temper and mean.  (Not that I am mean to my kids, don't take this the wrong way....it's just that I feel like I am not being the best example right now....I think everyone does it at some point.)  It is also very hard when you have 7 kids.

I am doing well on my weightloss journey that I started in January.  I started out at 210(I think) and am down to 177!  That is 33 pounds since January.  That is almost 5 pounds a month.  I am trying to not be annoyed that it isn't happening quicker but, I think this is actually a healthy rate to lose it.  Having a fitbit is great for motivation.  It is also great to make you feel like crap.  When I am editing pictures, I HAVE to sit at a computer for a long time.  And I don't get as many steps as I like.  But, it is still good to have, to make myself accountable and more aware of my activity.  I need to find something to do during the winter to keep my activity level up.  I thought about getting a membership the YMCA or something.  I don't know. We said we were gonna do that a year or two ago and never did.  Completely forgot about it.

Tristan is also getting ready to go on his great Boy Scout adventure to Philmont!  They are all taking the train out to New Mexico(an adventure in itself) then will spend a week at Philmont and ride the train back home.  He is saying that he really doesn't want to go anymore.  But, I know once he does it, he is going to love it.  It is already paid for so he is going, lol!

No Time To Say Hello, Good-bye!

Oh my goodness, this last month might be the absolute busiest, craziest, emotional roller coaster ride I have ever been on.  Jeremy and I have both been working non-freaking-stop.  Combine that with family crap, doctor's visits, field trips, end of school happenings (graduations, picnics, etc), school conferences, holidays/birthdays, trying to get our damn house sold, lessons, etc. and you have a recipe to have a complete and total nervous breakdown.  Jeremy and I literally have not slept for longer than 5 hours at a time and that is on a good night.  We both have felt sick and delirious as well.  Here is how my planner looks for the month of May.......(all these things in addition to cooking, cleaning, getting kids ready to and from school, lunches, laundry, mowing lawn, you know, regular daily life...oh and Jeremy's crazy work schedule as of late).

I decided somewhere along the way that this summer was going to be the first annual Camp Kelley.  I haven't had much time to really think on it but, it will be a summer camp.  I am really excited about it and hope that I can actually do it!

I have much to blog about but, I also have a ton of pictures to get done for people. So, I guess I will get back to this hectic schedule of mine.

More Sad Things

Well the last month or so has been a doozie.  So much going on, so much to do.  And nothing will slow down, much less stop to let us think and breathe.  This week the man that works for us, Bill, died unexpectedly.  He had cancer and was getting chemo.  He just worked on Saturday for us.  Apparently he had a coughing fit and had an embolism go to his heart and he died quickly.  Jeremy and I both were in shock.  Complete shock. It is just like when my Dad died.  Just BAM!  outta nowhere and you are left with your head spinning and don't know how to act. We are both supposed to go the funeral but, the funeral is today(Saturday) and we don't have a sitter.  I am not taking kids to a funeral again.  Nope. I am going to have to send my condolences through the air or something.  So not only is Bill dying very, very sad but, it does leave us in a tight spot.  Bill actually worked for us quite a bit.  He was available whenever Jeremy would call him.  And a good worker.  A while back, Jeremy decided to let Bill open the store on Saturdays for him.  Well, now we have people that know that we are open on Saturdays and rely on that because it is the only day that they can make it in.  Now, Jeremy is going to have to work the Saturdays or figure something else out.  One of the problems with that is that Jeremy and I were planning on taking Saturdays and getting our house fixed up so that it would freaking sell already.  We need to get in and paint, put up a back splash, clean up the yard to up curb appeal, new lights, etc.  We just never have time to go get anything done.   We NEED it gone fast.  Our contract is up here in July and at that point this house could be sold to someone else.  Not good.  At all. And it is making me freak the freak out.  I went over to the Carthage house on Monday with Vivianne and tried to do some things to help move the projects along.  Well, Vivi was having NOTHING to do with it.  She screamed and screamed until I got her out of her car seat and then screamed and/or got into every little thing she could.  It was pointless.
Also to coincide or maybe because of all the recent craziness(it's not just the Bill thing) I have been going through major anxiety and mood issues.  I don't understand it.  All I know is that I hate it.  I feel so stupid sometimes(all the time, lol).  I just hope that if my kids read this later in life that they understand why their mom is kinda moody and cranky sometimes.  I love these kids with all my heart but, I am so overwhelmed right now.  I wish they knew how hard I try.  One day they will.

Something that is awesome is that school is soon to be out for the summer!! YAY!! I am seriously contemplating homeschooling a couple of them next year again.  We shall see.  But, I need to work out these house situations first so that we have a home to have homeschool in, lol!

This Is How I Feel

Some of the things I love most about my "job" are also some of the things that many see as a waste of time.  I say: "screw that."  My job is mother of my family.  I am to do everything I can to support, nurture, sustain, empower, and love my family.  When I am blogging......I'm doing my job.  I am creating a lasting family story that will go on for generations and generations.  Who knows what may come of our family story in a hundred years?!!?  Or a thousand?!?!  Think about that!  Just as archaeologists discover old documents and journals from ancient times that tell them how life was then.  Also, that is how we know so much about historical figures....because things were written about them.  Our genealogy is our link to the past and our way to the future.  I am doing an important work.  On another note, if I were to die suddenly, I feel that the writings that I leave behind will be a comfort and hopefully bring some peace to my family in my absence.
Why is it that someone sitting in an office doing menial office tasks for people or a company that doesn't really matter, has more clout that a mother sitting at home with her children?   Why is acceptable to waste your time in this fashion yet, when I am on pinterest for a half an hour...that is being lazy and not getting anything done!??!  I beg to differ.  When I am on Pinterest, I am usually looking up fun things to do with the kids to help them learn and grow.  Or looking up new recipes to feed and sustain them.  Or house projects that will improve our living comfort or needs.  Or advice from other mothers on things that may have worked for them that may also work for me and my kids. This is not a waste of time and I am not being lazy.  This is my JOB.  And I love it.  It has it's annoying points as any job does, but, I have worked lots of other jobs and MOM is definitely the best.  Hands down.
Sometimes I look around and see messes, or dirty dishes, or laundry that I have done for the millionth time.  I get discouraged.  Then I try to remember that they little things that I do every day are some of the most important things that anyone can do.  I am providing a proper, safe, and loving environment for my children.  Which is the most important job of all.  I know that I have shortcomings and fail at many things that I try.  But, how will I know, unless I do try?  I know I am not the best mom in the world, in fact, some days I feel like the worst mom in the world.  But, I am here.  I keep trying every day even if I failed the day before.  Being a parent is the hardest thing I have ever tried.  I work very hard at it.  I am not lazy.  Thank you.

Progess

Me, Jeremy, Cedric, and Tristan all tackled the house this weekend.....again.  We finally got the rest of the old, yucky carpet up and the 4,375,890 staples out of the floor.  Cedric said the floor pad under the carpet looked like rotten food all smashed together! ha!  Well, it kinda does....ewww.   Notice in the background there my new black front door.....

I tried to capture how this looked in reality but since I don't have a digital SLR, I can't quite show you!  (I REALLY REALLY want a digital SLR)

I painted three doors black so far.  I LOVE it!  I got the idea on  pinterest when they said that interior designers say that painting the doors black (with no matter any color of trim) it brings warmth and something else into the house.  Well, it think it looks awesome.

Here you can kinda see where the crappy paint tape I bought last time ruined my trim work that I spent forever on.   So this time I bought Frog Tape and it works AMAZINGLY!  So, I redid all that trim......

pulling up carpet staples.....the boys kinda fizzled out on us after this....

and more trim again....it is the bane of my existence.

We also did some work on the stairs.....the carpet will be coming off of those soon too!  woot!

The Weekend

This weekend has been weird to say the least.  I felt like one of those girls on some chick flick that has a super depressing day and you see her all slobbenly dressed in sweats and t-shirt, hair all askew, surrounded by buckets of ice cream and cookies and chips and other things that should not be consumed!  I had a real life movie moment.  Anyway, it all started with the whole "Movie Massacre" thing.  I CANNOT stop watching.  All it does it increase my paranoia and make me a bumbling, crying mess.  But, I am riveted and can't wait to find out what this guys excuse is.
Then I woke up Saturday morning and was going to have my yard sale again but, I knew that they needed help at the condos. They had a crap ton of rooms to turn around and needed some extra hands. So, being the great person that I am, decided to help out....and take Tristan with me.  I hate going into work there.  It isn't worth it.  I don't need it.  It is irritating.  So, I went and the new girls there were talking crap about my mother.  So, I went and told her that she needed to stop being annoying or whatever.  Then I went back to another room and was cleaning all by myself.  Next thing I know there was some kind of "team meeting" in room 9.  I ran to room nine.  My mom is there with the girls asking what she can do differently.  then they all turn on me and say they have been doing fine all week and I was the problem!  WTF!?!?  I WAS THERE TO HELP THEM!! In a completely different room all by myself I might add.  I told them all if they wanted to do the rooms themselves then they could.  I also said a few other things I will not be posting to my blog. :) Tristan and I left and went home.  It's gonna take a lot for me to want to help them out ever again.
When we got home it was too late to start our yard sale, I didn't have it all ready anyway.  Dumb.  I was also realizing just how long it is going to take to get this house all painted and trimmed, and cabinets fixed, etc. etc. until we can show the house.  It is daunting and overwhelming.  We started loading kids up to go to Grandma's so we could finish up the painting we had already started.
When we got to Nauvoo, we drove past the house that we were going to put an offer in on and it was flipping SOLD!  FML!  For real, I was in a bad mood.  And it just kept getting worse.  Ever feel like the world is out to get you!?!?  Anyway, we left and got home to do some plaster repairs and realized that it was a much bigger task than we thought.  It took forever to dry.  And I was wallowing in my misery....in a giant funk.  Anyway, we did a third coat on Asher and Tristan's walls....except the one with the plaster and then ran out of paint.  Crap a dog!
I finally called it a night in hopes that today would be better.  It is.....slightly.  Yesterday, I was ready to give up on buying a new house and was just ready to expand this one or something but, I have been more positive today.  There are other houses and routes to get there.  This morning we made a trip to Lowe's and bought a crap ton more paint.  We found one of the colors for our bedroom walls in "mis-tint" section and got each gallon for $5!!  Can't beat that!  So, I will end with a funny!  I thought this e-card was freaking hilarious and I needed a good laugh today!!

Lonely In Family Town

I have not fallen off the face of the planet (yet).  I am lost in the land of remodeling.  Another stupid decision.  But this one should have a good end result.  Someone remind me that in my next life I need to be born an Arabian princess.  Or an inchworm (ya know, to teach me patience.)
Also, I am looking into operating our computer store out of a shanty in Fiji.

And so it goes

It's been a little while. tonight I am going to try to get pictures up of Cedric's 6th birthday party. WE have made a decision on Chicago and decided to hold off for now. It was a super hard decision. We both hate making the really tough ones. So after much praying and talking together, we felt this was for the best. We have had some good signs with the business in Carthage and all (for those of you who don't know: we own a little computer store in Carthage called woot! PC). Also, our house here is ours if we want it. I've got some little munchkins screaming at my feet so I will finish this post later.

Chicago?????

Jeremy and I spent the weekend in Chicago searching for a new place in which to make our home. Who knew it would be so difficult? Basically before we even left Nauvoo we were both feeling weird about going up there. I thought maybe it was because I was going to be gone on Mother's Day. But, we said a prayer together and left anyway. So after driving almost all the way to Monmouth we realized we had driven off and left Jeremy's contract back in Nauvoo and had to turn around and get it!! Good grief. Once in chicago we ended up spending a good deal of money on our tires and rims because we hit a huge pothole and ruined them both on one side of the car. So we started our house search and it seemed no matter what, nothing was right for us. We both were discouraged after Saturday but, thought sunday might be better. It wasn't. When we found a house we half way liked-then we didn't like the school...or the neighborhood...or the price. It seems nothing was right.
We ended up leaving Chicago feeling like everything was wrong and wondering if we made the right decision. this is a very big decision and we are confused. Argh! We'll see........
Maybe we can run away to an uncharted island somewhere and live like Robinson Crusoe!

any thoughts????

And we're off!

So we made our decision and we're off to Chicago!!! We are so excited! Jeremy had counter-offered for more money and they accepted!! woo-hoo! The only problem is, they want Jeremy there this Monday! Argh!!! We still have to find a house and get settled and what not. I will probably stay here until June 15th. Who knows??? We haven't had a chance to really set down together and work out the logistics yet. The kids are going to have a blast this summer!!! Yay for us!

What to do, What to do?????

So here is our new blog. I had to jump on the bandwagon! So currently in our life we are faced with the dilemma of a job offer in Chicago. We are torn and don't know what to do. We are just stressed to the max over it because we don't want to make the wrong decision. Obviously there are lots of pros and cons in either direction. I would say there are more pros for the chicago area, I guess. Well check back to see what we finally decide to do!

We have cedric's 6th birthday coming up on May 17th! He is so excited! After changing his mind many times about what kind of party he wanted to have he finally choose to go to Adventure Zone. Which is great because that makes it a lot easier on me! anything to ease my stress these days will help.

On the 14th of May we get to have our ultrasound of the new baby!!!!! Yes, we are definitely going to find out if it is a boy or a girl. It is a must do. I don't want to have a nervous breakdown when it is born...I would rather do that before it is born!!

Last night was my final meeting as PTO president at the Nauvoo-Colusa Elementary school! Hoo-freakin-yay! Although technically I am still president until next fall, I still feel a huge weight off of my shoulders. I still have to chair the end of the year school picnic and make sure all goes well with walk a thon and teacher appreciation and our school supply kits but, even with all of that....thank goodnesss I am done! I actually loved being on PTO but, we don't exactly have the best parents in the world to support us, so it really sucked to not get any support or ever feel appreciated for all the time and work that we put in to benefit everybody else's children. Oh well!

So that's it for my first blog. More pics and stuff to come! Stay posted!
