Asher's Pinewood Derby

I only had my phone again, darn it.  And hopefully Jeremy has a pic of the actual car on his phone that I can post later because apparently I didn't get one, smh.  But, Asher had a GREAT time and finished third out of his group!!! He was SO excited and so was Jeremy!!  We also forgot his scout shirt that day.  I can't wait to live in Nauvoo again so I could just run home if needed.

Asher was very focused and serious this day.
I love him.  I want good things for him.
He is so handsome and kind.
I am glad that he and Jeremy got to do this together.

Asher and Owen.
Owen got second place I believe.  It was back in January or February.

Disappeared

This is the show on the ID(Investigation Discovery) channel that I am kinda hooked on.  They also air old episodes on Discovery channel in the mornings sometimes.  It is fascinating.  It always sounds crazy to me to say that one of my siblings is missing.  Like how do you just go missing?!!?  But, it happens all the freaking time.  I would love for Russ's story to have a happy ending.

Breast Is Best

The Mini Jump

Well, the video doesn't work right so I will ask Jeremy how to fix it when he gets home.

Eden got this cute little purple mini trampoline from Grandma and Grandpa Kelley for Christmas this year.  These pics are from sometime in January.  But, both Cullen and Eden love it!  She calls it "the jump".  She will say: "Where's the jump?" when we put it away.  The big boys like it too.  And I am going to use it too!

Ice Cream Jello

This is the Ice Cream Jello I made on Valentines Day.  (Jeremy finally downloaded my pics from my phone for me so I get to blog about stuff I have forgotten about, hahaha!)  It was really good even if the kids thought it was weird!  Well, the big boys ate it anyway.  I used a couple different flavors of jello but, Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

Servings: 24

Units: US | Metric

1 (3 ounce) package cherry Jell-O
1 (3 ounce) package lemon Jell-O gelatin
1 (3 ounce) package lime Jell-O gelatin
1 (3 ounce) package orange Jell-O
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream, sliced into fourths

Directions:

1) Add 1 cup of boiling water to package of cherry Jello and stir.

2) Add 1/4 of the vanilla ice cream and use a whisk to whip with the Jello.

3) Let set in a clear 9x13-inch pan for 15 minutes or as Wife2uRick suggested waiting 15-30 minutes or until set.

4) Then Add 1 cup of boiling water to package of lemon Jello and add 1/4 of the vanilla ice cream and use a whisk to whip with the Jello.

5) Let set on top of the cherry layer for 15 minutes or until set.

6) Then add 1 cup to the lime Jello and add 1/4 of the vanilla ice cream and whisk to whip with the Jello.

7) Let set on top of lemon Jello for 15 minutes or until set.

8) Then with the last box of Jello which is orange add 1 cup of boiling water and the last 1/4 vanilla ice cream and whisk together and put on top of lime Jello and let set.

9) I usually do other things while I am making this and you can also use your favorite jello's but these together taste really good and I always am asked to bring it.

10) Note: I usually cut my ice-cream in fourths and leave the ice-cream in the freezer until I use each 1/4th for the Jello.

11) Jello can be stored in refrigerator when done. :).

33 Weeks

I just looked at The Bump website this morning to see this update.  Officially 33 weeks yesterday.  If you look down at the "Pregnancy Symptoms" portion of the article you will see a list of four things.  Good grief, I had every single one of them this weekend.  I honestly don't know if I have ever had a worse case of pregnancy brain than I did on Saturday.  But I will blog about that later.

 33 Weeks Pregnant

We’d tell you to take a deep breath and relax, but it’s probably tough to do either of those at 33 weeks. It’s probably tough to be comfortable at all, since you might be feeling overheated on top of your other symptoms, too. But you’re probably getting super excited to meet baby, and we can’t blame you. Week 33 is a good time to make sure you have a safe car seat for baby -- go ahead and install it already. Sure, you might not see baby for another month, but if you have an early surprise arrival, that’s the one thing you really need to have ready.
Your baby's the size of a durian!
He weighs about 4.2 to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. And he may grow up to a full inch this week -- amazing.

your baby at 33 weeks
  • He's keeping his eyes open while awake.
  • He's also starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing.
  • His bones are hardening.
  • And he going through (more) major brain development -- that's one smart baby!

Baby Update

Well, got to see baby girl by sonogram today.  She is head down and ready to go.  I thought for sure she was breech and maybe she was a couple of days ago but, now she is where she needs to be.  I'm still measuring big.  But, I actually LOST weight!! Three whole pounds in two weeks!  I told them I was worried that I was gaining too much and they said that I am not.  I am right where I need to be.  I have gained 28 pounds total and they want to me gain between 25-35 but, said it wouldn't be awful if I gained a little more.  I don't want to gain anymore, lol, but I am sure I will.
I am really, really excited to see her!  I keep imagining a baby that looks just like Eden in my head because that is all I know.  But, she could look completely opposite of Eden....or just like her....or anything for that matter!  I am just really looking forward to meeting her!  I have been having really painful braxton hicks contractions all day long.  Usually when I have them they aren't too painful but today they totally are.  I laid down for about an hour on my left side and they went away for awhile.

Chore Charts

I ran out of chore charts and we kinda of messed up a couple of weeks.  But, it was going so well that I am trying to jump back on track before the kids forget about it completely.  The weekly competition of who gets the most stars works wonders!  We take them to the Keokuk theater for a movie.  Liam and Asher have been talking about the Lego movie, I really wish I had been able to go, lol! Jeremy took them though while I stayed home with the others.  Last weekend we took Cedric and Liam to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman.  The kids loved it but, Jeremy and I were pretty bored.  Oh well, it was still good to have a good time with them!  I want to take Tristan and Cedric to see Divergent so I need to get the new chore charts lickety split.

Sick and Tired

Soooo, tired.  Somehow it always astonishes me each time just how tired your pregnant self can get.  I could literally sleep all day and all night if given the chance.  It doesn't help that poor little Eden had us up last night puking.  In our bed.  I feel so bad for her.  Liam had been sick with a stomach bug since Sunday morning.  He puked and had a fever.  He stayed home from school on Monday and Tuesday.  I feel so sorry for him.  He just laid around or slept the whole time.  I got him to eat some toast finally and he drank 7-up and gatorade.  I thought it would stay with just him but, then Eden came into our room last night and she has it too.  I think Liam may try to go to school today.  Which would be good because I have a ton to do and it is the day of his pinewood derby for scouts.  Also, I get to go to see Dr. Jones again.

Kids Sayings

CULLEN: "Holy cow moly!"

CULLEN: "Oh snap!"

Eden took a shower with Jeremy one day because I didn't want to bend over the side of the tub and wash her with my big belly.  Well, Cullen remembered that and asked Jeremy if he could take a shower with him tonight.  We said okay...I guess, lol!  The first thing he says when he gets in the shower with Jeremy?  "Dad, your peter is too big!"  Bhahahahahaha!

I smell popcorn at 7:45 in the morning.  Asher is popping popcorn.
ME: Asher why are you popping popcorn???
ASHER: I like popcorn.  I am a popcorn eater.
Can't argue with that I guess......

Me: Cullen, you are so cute, can I eat you up for supper?
Cullen: No, that will make you cry.

Asher's Doc Appointment

Yesterday I took Asher to the psychiatrist again for a check up.  The timing was perfect because we had just had a parent/teacher conference with his school teachers this past weekend.  He is still getting awesome grades.  He is SO smart.  But, the social aspect of things is still needing work and from what I gathered today, will be a life long work in progress.  We talked meds and things we could do to help him and us cope and live happily. The medicine is helping with the ADHD but, the Aspergers is going to require something else.  Dr. Cummings suggested that we start therapy.  It would be talk therapy and social skills.  She gave me a few numbers to call and we set up a follow-up appointment with her.  I have really been struggling emotionally lately in dealing with the "fun" of the Aspergers part of his diagnosis.  It doesn't help that I feel like no one gets it.  Even though I know that there are people out there that do.  The good thing is that from what I have been reading many Aspies (new lingo!) go on to do great things like becoming the CEO's of huge corperations or inventing new things because of how they think outside of the box.  Anyway, I came home and started doing some more research on things I could do to help him and me.  I loved this answer from Dr. sears that I found posted online in response to another Aspergers (ASD) question......

You are correct in referring to Asperger Syndrome as "high-functioning autism," as it's a part of the whole spectrum of autism. I prefer to simply call it Asperger Syndrome, and separate it from the stigma of autism since many of these children act quite differently than those who are more severely autistic. I have had the experience of being pediatrician to several of these children in my practice, and have followed one child with Asperger Syndrome from birth  -- and he's now a 24-year-old computer whiz who is a senior programmer in a major computer firm.
Like my former patient, many children with Asperger Syndrome are extremely bright. The most obvious characteristic of children with this syndrome are their social quirks. "Quirky" is not necessarily a negative attribute, in this instance  -- these are kids who think out of the box and, if treated professionally, they will grow up to build better boxes. The so-called quirks that A.S. children exhibit are variable, but the one thing that characterizes these children is their social inappropriateness. Some are very aloof; many have problems picking up on normal socialization cues and come across as awkward. They often shun prolonged eye contact, and are less engaging in conversation. Unlike most children with autism, A.S. children rarely have any delay in speech; in fact, many are extremely bright and eloquent. Their eloquence just appears at the wrong time. For example, they may blurt out their opinion about a topic right in the middle of the teacher's lesson in school instead of waiting until she is finished. Difficulty with the back-and-forth listening and speaking of normal conversation is also typical. Here are five ways to help your child become socially more appropriate:

Get him counseling. Interview specialists in Asperger Syndrome in your area and choose one that is a good match with your child. Because your child is precociously bright, he will likely perceive on his own whether or not this counselor is right for him.

Be his social chairman. You may notice that he'll relate appropriately with some children and inappropriately with others. He may do better with one-on-one relationships or shine in group play. Identify the most compatible peers and foster those relationships. Invite temperament-compatible friends over to your home for parties and sleep-overs. Keep track of "high-risk" situations that cause him to get frustrated and become socially inappropriate, such as too many kids in a small room, and avoid these situations as much as possible. In my experience, children with Asperger Syndrome get bored around boring kids, so you may need to encourage relationships with other children who are bright and interesting. Remember, your goal is to help him enjoy the company of other children, and he needs to enjoy socializing in order to do it appropriately.

Model social skills. Get him comfortable with making eye contact during conversations. When you speak to him, make eye contact that is brief, soothing, and non-threatening. Use animated facial gestures so that he enjoys looking at someone's face. Teach him how to respond in emotional situations. If he laughs when his friend is upset, for example, play show and tell. Show him why his friend is sad, and how to be sympathetic with responses such as "I'm sorry." If that doesn't work, tell him. Even a five-year-old can understand the admonition, "That's inappropriate!" As he gets older, you can show him how to further respond appropriately to social cues. If another child brings him a toy and invites him to play, he may not get the hint and need you to tell him, "Billy wants you to have fun with him playing with the truck."

Get him moving. Boys with Asperger Syndrome are often also labeled A.D.H.D. One of the newest treatments for hyperactive children is intense exercise. I suspect that the basic therapeutic mechanism is that exercise stimulates neurochemicals that make the entire brain work better. Set him up to succeed: If there's a particular game or activity that he's good at, whether it's softball or soccer, encourage him to participate and excel at it. Team sports are good for A.S. kids to pursue, although many of these children are more comfortable with one-on-one sports, such as tennis.

Foster his "special something". Discover your child's special talent (e.g., sports, academics, art, music) and nurture its development. I call this the "carryover effect:" If your child excels in one thing and feels that he is good at it, this feeling is likely to carry over into helping him generally develop appropriate behavior in other circumstances.

Wise Tattoo Decisions

You know when people get a really bad tattoo and you can't say anything to them because it is stuck on their body for the rest of their life??  Yeah, well, that is me today(and many other days really).  I just can't bring myself to tell her that her new tattoo of angel wings above her crotch (who the hell puts angel wings above their crotch!??) looks like an effed up elephant or the crazy monkeys from the Wizard of Oz.  You can always tell when someone goes to just any random tattoo artist they can find and haven't done any research on who is the best.  Sad, really.  I have been a victim of it too but, I blame it on being young and dumb (18 years old) and not of sound mind at the time, lol!  That is why when I get my new one, it will be done by someone that is one of the best.  Someone that is showcased in tattoo magazines and has tons of references and evidence to back it up.  I just feel badly for her.  I have felt bad for others in the past as well but, what can you do?!!? lol!! *sigh* poor girl.

My Girls Will Thank Me Later

Excerpt from The Birth Book By William and Martha Sears

pregnancy photo and ultrasound The better you prepare your perineal tissues for the stretching of birth, the less they will tear, and the better they will heal. Like training muscles to perform at their best in an athletic event, conditioning the tissues around the vaginal opening with massage prepares the perineum to perform. Midwives report that women who practice perineal massage daily in the last six weeks of pregnancy experience less stinging sensation during crowning. Mothers with a more conditioned perineum are less likely to tear or get an episiotomy. An added value of perineal massage is that it familiarizes a woman with stretching sensations in this area so she will more easily relax these stretching muscles when stinging occurs just before the moment of birth.
Try this technique:
  • Scrub your hands and trim your thumb nails. Sit in a warm comfortable area, spreading your legs apart in a semi-sitting birthing position. To become familiar with your perineal area use a mirror for the first few massages (a floor-to-ceiling mirror works best). Use massage oil, such as pure vegetable oil, or a water-soluble lubricant, such as K-Y Jelly (not a petroleum-based oil) on your fingers and thumbs and around your perineum.
  • Insert your thumbs as deeply as you can inside your vagina and spread your legs. Press the perineal area down toward the rectum and toward the sides. Gently continue to stretch this opening until you feel a slight burn or tingling.
  • Hold this stretch until the tingling subsides and gently massage the lower part of the vaginal canal back and forth.
  • While massaging, hook your thumbs onto the sides of the vaginal canal and gently pull these tissues forward, as your baby's head will do during delivery.
  • Finally, massage the tissues between the thumb and forefinger back and forth for about a minute.
  • Being too vigorous could cause bruising or swelling in these sensitive tissues. During the massage avoid pressure on the urethra as this could induce irritation or infection.
  • As you become adept with this procedure, add Kegel exercises to your routine to help you get the feel for your pelvic muscles. Do this ritual daily beginning around week 34 of pregnancy.
  • Many midwives and obstetricians believe that perineal massage is neither useful nor necessary as long as the mother's perineum is supported during crowning, her pushing is properly timed, and the baby's head and shoulders are eased out. Discuss the value of perineal massage with your birth attendant.

Morning Laugh/Motivation

Oh, how I laughed at this!  But, it is SO true was well.

A Little Bit About My Eden Rose

I started making a list of things that Eden says because the pediatrician said she should be saying over 300 words by now.  She said this back in November when Eden still had her pacifier and wasn't talking a whole lot.  Since Eden threw her pacifier out we have heard her talk to us ALL the time so I started the list to see if she was talking enough.  Oh my goodness, she blows the list out of the water!  She pretty much knows all the words to every single Frozen song (something I would love to catch on video), can tell us (mostly) what she wants and needs, and jabbers to herself all the time too!  She makes me so proud!  She does talk with an accent or an impediment  so some people don't understand her all the time but, we understand what she is saying(most of the time).  I am not worried anymore about her ability to speak since she pretty much doesn't stop talking from the time shes wakes up until she goes to sleep, lol!
I do enjoy my days with just her and I right now.  I'm glad we get this time together before the baby comes.  Yesterday she came up to me and asked for a hug.  Then she asked to sit on the couch with me and of course I had to because she was being so sweet.  She just wanted to snuggle with me on the couch and get rubbed! :)  What is cute is that she will rub me back too.  She also sat incredibly still yesterday while I pulled her her hair into a pony tail! She usually wiggles and whines because she doesn't want her hair done.  I almost decided to do something other than a ponytail but decided not to push it.
She knows most all of her colors and can count to ten and we are working on shapes. I am trying to work on things that I know they screen for at pre-school screening.  (It helps to have had a zillion kids go through pre-school already, haha!) She loves putting together puzzles and building with blocks.  One of her favorite shows right now is Blues Clues (Jeremy downloaded all the seasons) and we watch them.  I wish Blues Clues was still on.  It as a great show that taught lots of things. Her favorite episode is the Alphabet Train.  Joe builds a train out of boxes with a letter on each box.  She is gonna have her ABC's down pat next, lol!  Preschool screening is beginning of April. One of the things they test is motor skills and have them jump, catch a ball, walk a balance beam etc.  She does all these things excellently!  She can catch a ball when she isn't even looking at it.  It is pretty incredible really.
She loves to dance too!  It is the sweetest thing ever and totally makes me day when she sings and dances with me.  If I turn on Youtube, she will totally stop what she is doing and come sing and dance with me.  Ahhh, it is wonderful!  I cannot wait to have TWO little girls to hang out with!  This pregnancy was not in my plans at all but, darn it, I couldn't be more excited!!  The closer and closer it gets, the more excited I get!

St. Patty's Day Redemption

Well, The Kelley's know how to do St. Patrick's day right!  And by the Kelley's I don't mean Jeremy and I.  I mean his side of the family! lol!  Tonight we had the traditional Irish feast of Corned Beef, Roast Beef (pretty sure they just make this for me since I am a giant loser and don't like corned beef, haha!), Potatoes, Carrots, Cabbage, 3 bean salad, Watergate salad, funeral potatoes, bread, and green drink.  For dessert we had green jello cake!!! It was AWESOME!  I stuffed my face!  The baby needed it.  Everyone was able to make it except for Tyson.  We were able to hang out and visit and laugh together.  It was nice.  It was also the anniversary of when Jeremy's grandma, Lucille, passed away last year.  She is always watching over the family I am sure.  The whole Kelley family is just chock full of amazing people and I am proud to be a part of them.  Now, if I can just get a St. Patrick's Day right.  Next year.......

St. Patty's Day Fail

I am really annoyed with myself right now.  My family never ever celebrated St. Patrick's Day in any way.  I would always forget to wear something green and people would give me crap and try to pinch me, lol!  Anyway, every year I think I am going to do something with the kids to celebrate it since we are Kelley's and everything.  Well, every year I suck at it.  I cannot seem to wrap my head around St. Patrick's day.  I mean, I don't even get what the celebration is about (a guy getting rid of snakes or something!? I mean, come one. Why is this a holiday!??) but, I still want to enjoy it.  I meant to get some shirts for the kids who don't have anything green but, I totally forgot this weekend.  We do have a couple of St. Patrick's Day shirts floating around that Asher and Tristan were able to wear though.  Cedric wore a shamrock tie on top of his shirt, lol!  Cullen has a small dab of lime green on his shirt and so does Liam.  Eden has nothing.  Oh well.  There is always next year.  I will try to get a St. Patty's day supper or dessert or something ready for the kids this evening.  But, who knows if I will get to it.  I woke up at 3am with horrible back and stomach pains.  I thought I might throw up but didn't.   I still feel rather ill....and incredibly tired.  Whatever.  I am going to get something green or Irish done today whether I like it or not.

31 Weeks

Welcome to week 31. Can you believe all five of baby’s senses are fully developed? He also keeps getting smarter. That’s probably good to know, since you might actually feel a little dumb. You’re not! It’s just that many moms-to-be find themselves acting absentmindedly during the third trimester. Some say that “pregnancy brain” isn’t a proven physical ailment, but can you think of another time in your life when you’ve had more on your mind than now? We’re guessing no. That right there is enough of a reason to be so forgetful. From 31 weeks on, you’re bound to feel a lot of the same symptoms -- some may get worse, some may become bearable. And you might start to have more trouble getting around as you get heavier and feel more and more short of breath. Remember not to push yourself too much. It’s good for you and baby to get some exercise, but definitely take breaks to rest as much as you need.
Your baby's the size of a pineapple!
He's about 15.2 to 16.7 inches long and weighs about 2.5 to 3.8 pounds this month. He's getting so big, he's probably crowding your lungs.

your baby at 31 weeks
  • He's going through major brain and nerve development.
  • Eye development, too. His irises now react to light!
  • All five of his senses are in working order.

A Girly Girl Post

WARNING TO MALES:  THIS IS A VERY FEMALE POST.  READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I HAVE to share this article.  I want my daughters to know when they go to have babies that they don't have to deal with all the yucky crap that most women think is "normal" after pregnancy and childbirth.  There are things you can do to prevent tears, episiotomies, and incontinence afterwards.  I hear from so many women that they pee when they laugh, cough, jump, sneeze, whatever.  I do not have this problem. And it is because I educated myself beforehand and do things that will minimize the possibilities of these things happening.  There needs to be more articles like this with MORE information for all women.  I would add things like the olive oil method that I use (husbands love helping with this one, lol!)  It is just so tragic to think that some women just live in fear of peeing their pants all the time and have to constantly wear a pad.  I can't even tell you the last time I wore a pad.  It's a sad state of affairs when women so readily listen to stupid male doctors and their outdated practices.

save your vagina

iStock_000005444221Small

That opening in the middle? That’s where your baby exits your body (what you see behind the opening is your spine leading down to your sacrum and tailbone). Picture that large hole in the middle as not facing front to back, but on an angle and more up and down–the baby descends through that opening, and the muscles (not pictured) both keep the uterus and other organs from sagging downward during pregnancy and also help to push the baby out of your body when the time is right. (Note: the same muscles help you hold it when you need to go to the bathroom and they help you experience sexual pleasure).
Next, picture the muscles in the area. Wait, you don’t know what they look like? Click here to see them (a new window will open). The muscles in this region are like a hammock. They cradle, support, and help align the bones and organs in the region. They assist in using the bathroom and “holding it” too.
Now, think about what happens to your body during pregnancy. Your uterus grows from the size of a grapefruit to the size of a watermelon. You not only increase the weight load experienced by your pelvic and vaginal musculoskeletal region, but you also change the way your weight is distributed. If you were a gymnast, dancer, or avid yogi, you probably began pregnancy with a pretty strong set of muscles in the pelvic region. But even these more prepared people will experience stress on the entire region during pregnancy.
The goals of this post are to do two things.
1. Explain what you can do to build muscle, alignment, and stability in your pelvic region. This will lead to (a) less damage during pregnancy, (b) lower risk of incontinence, (c) being better equipped to push a baby out of your uterus into the world, (d) faster and more complete recovery.
2. Give nutrition tips for creating strong supple muscles and tissues in the pelvic region that will make childbirth “easier” and the vagina less likely to tear.
Honestly, no one wants to talk about this, but most women want to know about it. I can’t guarantee that if you follow this advice you’ll experience no damage and no vaginal tears during pregnancy and/or childbirth. I can tell you with full confidence, that the tips I’m sharing are known to give benefit in the specific ways noted here. We can’t really measure the difference between what the damage would have been if you didn’t do it–and the truth is, some of this is genetic.
First, ask your mom and other female relatives about their experiences. Most people like to tell you all about what they went through!
(Note: I’d avoid chatting with people who are likely going to make it sound awful, horrible, or scary).
Second, examine your lifestyle. Make the general and dietary improvements listed below. Then incorporate relevant exercises. When you go into labor, you can feel assured that you did as much as you could do to set your vagina up for a positive experience!
Tip 1: Do Kegels. I know, you hear about this all the time, and no one really does it. Actually–that’s not true! Some people do kegels regularly. If you can’t seem to manage adding this routine to your day, download an app that will help remind you (there are several to choose from). Kegels are important. They strengthen the pelvic floor muscle. This muscle is so important to both childbirth and your long-term vaginal/pelvic health. You’ve probably heard of women who have problems with incontinence after childbirth. Strengthening the kegels can prevent this and also treat incontinence that is occurring.
Tip 2: Do Squats. Doing squats helps to strengthen your gluteus muscles. These muscles are so important during pregnancy and childbirth because they support both the increasing size/weight of your uterus (and all that goes with it), and they also help offet the stress created by the change in weight distribution. Another often overlooked benefit of doing squats during pregnancy (Ina May Gaskin recommends 300 a day!), is that it helps your pelvis align properly. One mistake people often make is that they spend all their focus on pelvic floor exercises (kegels), and doing this can actually make childbirth harder if you don’t balance the action with squats! The position of your pelvis and the alignment of the entire region is important for pushing a baby out in the “easiest” way possible, and it also ensures that your pelvic floor exercises are being applied correctly.
Tip 3: Do Pelvic Tilts or Cat/Cow (if you’re a yogi). On all fours, you simply tilt your pelvis from neutral to anterior position and back (anterior position is like sticking your butt up to the ceiling and arching your low back a bit). It’s not a large movement, but it helps to strengthen your abs, ease low back strain, and improve your posture. Ultimately, pelvic tilts are very important for preparing your body for labor and delivery, beyond just helping support your body during pregnancy.
Tip 4: Sit on the Floor or a on Birthing Ball. Do this all the time if possible. Core strength is pelvic strength’s best wingman. One leads to the other, or conversely, takes away. In addition, sitting on a ball or with good posture (cross-legged) on the floor helps align the pelvis properly, open the hips, and support your growing belly without pain. If you’re not used to doing this, work up to longer periods of time. It’s worth it, and you’ll notice a difference very quickly!
Tip 5: Move More in General. You need to exercise, whether it’s walking or yoga, or biking, or swimming… or anything low impact. It’s important to keep moving so you keep good range of motion in your joints. We usually think of our pelvis region as “immovable” in terms of joints (aside from the hips), but the thing about focusing on moving that helps your pelvis is the improved circulation and lubrication of joints caused by being more physically active. And whether you are aware or not, your pelvic joints do have the ability to move a little bit. Make all your joints healthy, and your pelvis will be healthier too. The stamina and muscles you build will also help you during labor and delivery.
Tip 6: Eat More Foods from the Sulfur Group. Without getting too technical here, sulfur makes your connective tissue more elastic and helps it recover faster from damage. Foods in this group include: broccoli, cauliflower, onions, garlic, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and asparagus. Eat at least 3 cups of these per day! There’s a compound in these foods called MSM (which you can take as a supplement when you’re not pregnant), that will make you significantly more flexible, and it will improve the health of your hair, skin, and nails too. You can take this up until you get pregnant, but then you’ll need to rely on the actual foods that contain it to help you in this department. The bottom line is that more elastic tissues make your musculoskeletal system more resilient during pregnancy and also help you push a baby out of your tiny vagina without damaging it—it helps your vaginal muscles, tissues, and related joints stretch and move, and then rebound back to “normal” afterward.
Tip 7: Stay Hydrated. Every cell in your body contains fluid. Fluid conducts electricity (nerve impulses), helps cells carry out all of their functions, and assists in delivering nutrients and carrying away waste in your blood and lymph. Your vaginal tissues are not exempt from this, and your vagina will be healthier and more resilient if you are hydrated.
Tip 8: Eat an Anti-Inflammatory Diet. This may seem a bit too general to apply to your vagina, but really, it’s very important. You need to cut down on processed foods, sugar, and white flour, and increase the amount of nutritious whole foods you eat. I swear this will make your vagina healthier. There are so many nutrients that contribute to the health of your tissues, and processed and inflammatory foods just don’t help. For example, Vitamin C helps tissues stay healthy and repair faster. Healthy fats strengthen the walls of your cells and balance hormones that keep your cells supple and lubricated well. Calcium and Potassium are important for muscle contraction. The list goes on! Processed inflammatory food doesn’t contain enough nutrients.
Tip 9: Decide on Your Birth Plan and Make Sure Your Doctor is Aware of What You Want. I’m not going to tell you what to put in it, but if you think you want a natural unmedicated childbirth with no episiotomy and a cesarean section only under certain circumstances, and you don’t tell your doctor, you may not get what you want when the time comes. I suggest you take a birthing class. The Bradley Method and Hypnobirthing are awesome approaches to childbirth that will help you be in charge of the experience. This will, no doubt, lead to you playing more of a role in how your vagina is protected (or not) while you’re in labor and delivery.
Some of the tips are more general, and some are very specific. I’m very confident that if you integrate all of these tips into your lifestyle while you’re pregnant, you will decrease the risk of damage to your vagina. Please work with your doctor on a specific plan for you–this is a general list that doesn’t take into account your specific health!
Will you please share your experience with birth and how it affected your vagina?

Birthday and Doctor

My actual birthday day was a wonderful day despite waking up to the ground covered in snow.  Jeremy had planned on hanging out with me for the day a but, had a couple of emergencies at work.  While I was waiting for him to get back, I looked out the back door and there was a huge box there!  It was the stroller/car seat that I had been telling him to get so I could walk with Eden before the baby was born!!!  He is a sneaky stinker!  He brought me some Mexican food at lunch and then told me to go to the salon for a pedicure!!  When I got there, I found out that my sister, Vicki, had been to the salon earlier in the morning and had paid for a haircut for me too!  Wowzers!  Sarah Root didn't have time to do the haircut that day but, I will be getting it soon.  And boy do I need it because my hair is splitting like crazy!
The kids got home from school and my mom brought me a cute new shirt and a card!  The evening was spent resting and watching my favorite t.v. shows!  It was a relaxing, wonderful day!  I cannot believe that I am 35 years old.  It just sounds weird to even say it.
Okay, and now as I type this post Trisha messaged me and asked it I got my mail yesterday.  Weird question, right?  haha!  I said no, I hadn't. Which is also weird because I typically only skip getting the mail on the weekends.  I mean my front porch is so far away after all!  Anyway, so I hopped outside in my pajamas and found a package in the mailbox.  It is the coolest nursing infinity scarf ever!  I had pinned it on my pinterest and she noticed!  The fabric is a soft jersey and she got it in purple and white chevron stripes!! I love it!
This weekend Jeremy wants to actually go out for my birthday.  I don't know if he has more surprises in store or not.  And he says he can't surprise me anymore!   Whatever!  haha!

Yesterday was my doc appointment with Dr. Jones.  I am measuring 3 weeks bigger than I am supposed to.  Seeeee, I told everyone I was huge!!  lol!  He said we would keep an eye on it but, nothing to freak out about.  Labor and delivery is coming up rather quickly.  I am both super excited and sick to my stomach because my birth plan is up in the air.  I feel like it is my first time.  I have laid the law down with Dr. Jones on episiotomies but, I still have a fear that something stupid will happen and I will be ruined for life.

I took Eden on a walk in the stroller yesterday.  We walked about 6 blocks and I thought for sure I was going to pee my pants.  So we came home.  The stroller is great though, I love it!

This next week we have Mt. Hamill construction coming to our house to give us an estimate on the remodel.  I need to get my garage cleaned out.  Hopefully it stays nice so we can get that done.

Cedric and Tristan had a dance at school on Wednesday to celebrate the end of the ISAT tests.  Tristan said that Cedric was a weirdo and actually danced! lol!  Cedric showed me some dance moves that he and his friends made up and boy were they funny!  They both had fun in a different way and that is completely fine!  I love them and the people they are growing up to be!

Shtuff

I think Eden and I might head out to the store today.  It is supposed to be 70 degrees out!! My birthday is tomorrow and there is a winter storm called Winter storm Vulcan coming, UGH!  The only cool thing is that it is called Winter Storm Vulcan.  I mean, a Star Trek named storm on my birthday?!?!!? Kinda cool! haha!

I feel so big.  I had to pee like four times in the night last night!  Ridiculous!  Also, I am reaching that point in pregnancy where I am in constant danger of peeing my pants!  Yesterday, I kept sneezing (allergies, I think from the nice weather) and I thought I was going to pee every time because there is a baby sitting on my freaking bladder!!  lol! Luckily, I didn't but, as I still have some time left before she gets here, I imagine I will at some point.  Ah, the joys of being pregnant.  Thank goodness, I only have this problem when I am pregnant and it will all go away after she is born!  The things we go through to bring our children into the world!

Eden and I played outside for a bit yesterday.  Liam came out and played with Eden too on the swing set.  He plays so good with her.  She went out barefoot and got super duper muddy!  I think she may have ruined an outfit but, oh well.  I tossed her in the tub after that.  She is really into coloring right now. She carries her coloring books and crayons around with her everywhere.  It is very cute.  She likes to point at everything she is coloring and name it.  She's getting pretty good at shapes.  And doors.  Of course doors. lol!  She has had a life long obsession with doors.

Today Liam has Spring pictures at school.  Both of us forgot but, I think he ended up wearing the outfit he wanted to wear anyway.  His minion shirt, lol!

Valentine's Day 2014

There was a big snow storm on Valentine's Day.  School got cancelled.  I had the four youngest here and two oldest were stuck at my mom's house.  At lunch time, Jeremy showed up with flowers and a Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake!!  The kids were super excited and so was I!

I had ordered the kids Tootsie Roll banks on Amazon a week or so before because I wanted each of the kids to have a bank to keep their allowance in.  They like those too!
I made some ice cream layered jello for part of the supper meal that nobody would eat.  I was having a hormonal pregnancy day and it made me cry.  Liam felt bad and snuggled up with me on the couch after supper.  It made me feel much better.  I missed my big boys that day too.  So, on Sunday we had another "Valentine's Meal" for the whole fam!  On Saturday, Jeremy was going to take me out but, I was puking for some dumb reason.  So, we ordered food and stayed in watching movies....I think.  I was very tired.  lol!

Homeschool

I am seriously considering homeschooling all the kids.  We will wait till after baby to see.

Glasses

We are pretty proud of savings around here, lol!  The last time we ordered glasses Jeremy totaled up what we have spent in the last year or so on glasses for the whole family.  We always buy our glasses through Zenni optical.  We spent $293.75 on 21 pairs of glasses!! WOOT!!!  I had a girl in the check out lane the other day compliment me on my glasses and then proceed to tell me that the place next door to the store we were at had a great deal right now.....2 pairs of glasses for $198!!!  I just looked at Jeremy and smiled!  Haha!  I probably should have told her about Zenni but, there was a huge line and so I just complimented her on her savings!  (Or lack thereof!)  The great part is that glasses places usually upsale you on insurance plans if your glasses break or whatever....don't even need that at Zenni.  If your pair of $10 glasses break....ummm, then get a new pair, haha!  :)  Another funny thing, is I saw someone with the exact same pair of glasses I have and I asked them if they bought them at Zenni.  She said no, she got them at her eye doctor and they cost her $150!!! WTF!?!?!?  They were the same brand and everything!! I could not believe it!!  Anyway, ya, there is our thrifty note for the day!

Coolista

I knew Jeremy had a Pinterest board called 'Coolista' but, I haven't looked at in a long while.  This morning I did.  That man of mine sure does truly KNOW me and GET me.  And gosh darn it, he LOVES me anyway!!  He's like the best person I know!  There are some things on there that he knows I will find funny, things that he knows I need to hear to lift me up, and things that pertain to "us".  He even has items I would like posted there....like purses and clothes and such!  He is a freaking gem!  I will have to post some of the things he pinned.  They are great!

Curse You Daylight Savings!

Yesterday I was all outta wack!
Couldn't ever figure out what time it was.  Tired and cranky.

Milo Is Getting Big!

I went to Nauvoo a couple of hours early on Friday to snap some shots of Milo before I had to pick kids up from school.  The temperature was fairly nice so we risked going outside into the melting snow.  We had Eden, Chase and Milo and boy did they get wet and messy!  But, I was able to get a few good shots in about 15 minutes so that is good!
