Jeremy has been working diligently for three days now to fix our antique boiler furnace. Just another lovely thing we find out about this P.O.S. house. Add it to the list with everything else. Apparently you're doing great if your boiler makes it twenty years and ours has been in that basement for at least 31. Super. We can't get it to work yet.
It is supposed to get down to 34 tonight so hopefully our little space heaters keep up because poor Eden is already sick. I'm freezing in the office right now but there is no space heater in here....much to my dismay.
This house is the BIGGEST mistake we have made in our married lives. No one can ever convince either one of us (and not to brag but we're freaking smart people with high I.Q.'s) that it is cheaper to own a home than rent one. Do the math people. The only way it may be even remotely worth your money is if you live in the house for your whole life. Even if you live in the house your entire life, you still end up paying at least double what you bought it for. Not to mention taxes and upkeep. Or you can buy a house, fix it up really cheap like, and sell it to some chumps like us...that'll make ya some money.
Oh wait, but, we're building equity, right?? What is the equity for except to get another house that you can dump EVEN MORE MONEY INTO!?!?!? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!
I think really it's a status symbol. And not one that I want.....because I think it is the status of idiocy, really. We have spent more money owning a home than we ever did renting. Next year we are getting rid of this money pit. I am counting the days and on the day it sells, I'm throwing a huge party!!! I cannot wait to return to my renter status.
Never owning a home again unless I've got the money to pay for it in cash.
