Bringing My Last Baby Into the World

 May 15th, 2014
Memorial Hospital
Carthage, Illinois
10:00am

We arrived at the hospital a few minutes past ten o'clock for my induction.
It was a Thursday, right at my 39 week marker.
My doctor scheduled me to be induced due to a medical condition called Complain-alot-itis.  It is a very serious disorder and needed to be treated immediately.  Jeremy, Trisha, and I arrived at the Stork Stopp ready to get baby girl birthed and into the world!  I had a lot of nervous excitement.

I got dressed in a hospital gown, hooked up to monitors, and an IV started.  The nurse put the IV more up on my wrist/arm which made it better for using my hand but, still a pain in the butt!  They started the Pitocin and then the fun began!

Dr. Jones arrived to break my water.  That is always what gets me to the point I need to be at.  It was rather uncomfortable but, a necessary thing.  When he broke my water, it didn't come out right away.  A little came out but, not much at all.  I figured it might not come out until after birth, like with Tristan.

Trisha bought three scratchers for us to do since it was a lucky day.  Again, as usual, Jeremy won!  Five bucks, but a winner nonetheless!

And then out of nowhere......THE WATER CAME OUT!

 and kept coming out.....
 and more!

It went on forever and ever!  Seriously, I thought it would never stop coming out!
How much water was in there anyway?!?!

The anesthesiologist came in then and talked and talked and talked about the epidural.  He felt the need to give me a science lesson on all of it.  I was having contractions the entire time but, trying not to pay attention to them so I could pretend to have an interest in what the guy was saying but, it was rather annoying.  The only saving grace was that he was a super nice guy so it was hard to be too annoyed with him!  lol!  He also ended up giving me the best epidural ever so I guess I can't complain too much!

This nurse, Katy, is the best one in the OB department and I am glad I got her for the majority of my labor and delivery.  She was awesome.  She was patient, kind, and very comforting.

I got on the birthing ball for a bit after my water broke.  I bounced and did hip circles quite a bit.  It felt really good to do that as it opened my hips up.  Contractions were starting to get painful at this point.

She even pulled my hair back for me!  During a contraction but, you can't really pick and choose the timing of these things.

 My partners in crime.

It is weird how bi-polar you get during labor.  During contractions, the pain is real and intense, and you're sure the pain is going to kill you, then it goes away and you are happy and smiling again.

The ball got old and I really just wanted to stand and sway.  Katy put a mat on the floor just in case any more fluid came out.  It was my own little dance mat.

Katy also had a very infectious laugh that made you want to hear it more!

I told her that I should do some squats to get the baby lowered into the canal better and she said she would get the squat bar out.  I had never used one and it was awesome!  I wish I had known about it for all my deliveries.  I did squats with my butt hanging out the back of the gown!! LOL! I didn't even care, it actually felt really good.  But, when contractions came I had to stand up and get through it.

 The proud Dad.

 The pink fuzzy socks.
I brought these socks to wear during delivery.  The entire time I was freezing cold for some reason.  Turns out, these socks are cooling gel socks!  As soon as I took them off, I warmed up a little better.  Also, every doctor or nurse that came in to check me, commented on the pink fuzz that the socks left all over the bed!! I had no idea that they shed!  Once I took them off, Trisha got me some warm wash cloths to put on my feet since they were freezing! It worked and they warmed right up!  But, Dr. Jones or one of the nurses came in and asked what was wrong with my feet! bahahaha!  I had to tell them we were just trying to warm my feet up!

 Labor getting rather intense.

Jeremy thought it was funny, I guess!

He is actually very patient and helpful when I am in labor.
I wouldn't have wanted to do any of it without him there by my side.

Jeremy and Katy rubbed me and tried to make it better for me.  The contractions were getting so painful that it was hard to think straight.  I didn't want to get overwhelmed either and not make good decisions.  But, I had good people there to help me.  Trisha was taking pictures but, also telling me encouraging things and helping talk me through the epidural decision making process.  I honestly thought about doing it drug free again but, realized I hated that every time I have done it.  Thank goodness, I decided to get the epidural.

Every labor I have had, I always wanted to be on my hands and knees and was never allowed or couldn't because of some medical condition.  This time they let me!  It was awesome!  It made things so much more tolerable.  It was at this point they told me I was dilated to 7.  And if I wanted the epidural that I better do it now.  So, that is what came next.  Joy.

Oh, how I hate this part.  The epidural frightens me, even when I know it will help.
It is so hard to just sit there through it too.

Trying to talk me through it.  I was sure that I couldn't do it.  The contractions were coming fast and hard and I just didn't know if I could sit through another one....and then I would sit through another one.  Somehow we get through it!! :)

 This picture gives me chills.

I love this man of mine.  He is really good to me.

Jeremy rubbing me feet....pink fuzzies and all!

Once the epidural took affect.  He didn't give me a drip though....so soon I was feeling the pain full force again.  It was also almost time to push at this point.  I was at a nine.

I thought I was going to puke.  It was a horrible feeling combined with the contractions.  Not too happy.

 Ah, good, more epidural juice!

And right after the epidural boost, it was time to push....I was dilated to 10!!!

Getting ready to push her out.

I didn't push long.  Two pushes I think.  Well, Dr. Jones had me do a "test push" first, in which her head started to come out, so he called all the nurses in and two "real pushes" later, she was here!!  I saw her little hand stick up in the air first and then heard her cry! It was such a beautiful sound!  I was awestruck that I had forgotten the wonderful sound of a new baby making their first sounds in this world.

She had the cord around her neck but, was fine and dandy.

Yep, love at first site.  She was just perfect in every way.

Jeremy cutting the cord.  He has cut the cord for every baby we have had.  I love that he is involved with every aspect of the labor and delivery.

We held hands for a bit.

They took her to the warmer to check her out a bit.  She was screaming and Jeremy went over to talk to her and she quieted right down.  She knew her Daddy's voice already.

 She held Trisha's hand too.

7 lbs. 12 oz.  (My third smallest baby)
5:17pm
19 1/2 inches long
Vivianne Lucille Kelley

I wanted to feed her right away.  She latched right on and nursed for about 20 minutes.  It is such a bonding experience to nurse your babies and it is what they want to comfort them after their long journey into the world.  I can't imagine not doing it for them.

Mom, Dad, and our newest addition to our family!!  We did it!!  Every child we have is another miracle and a blessing.  I am so thankful for her and for all of my family.  I loved having Jeremy and Trisha there by my side to help bring her into the world.  I am really excited that Trisha was able to capture all these great pictures of such a special time in our lives too.  And I am glad Vivianne is here and our family is complete.

Annoyed

Well, I got the labor and delivery pics all done and ready to be posted but Blogger is being dumb and keeps loading them out of order and then not loading them at all.  Our internet has been wonky for days now....we have Mediacom coming to check it out today.  Better fix it.  I am having a heck of a time responding to messages, loading anything, editing pics, etc.  Super annoying.

Big Brother, Little Sister

Tristan and Eden are buds.  She always gets him to give her piggy back rides and horsey rides.  Tristan always humors her and does what she asks!  He is a good big brother.  At the end of the my pregnancy I asked him to hang out with her when she wanted to go outside.  I wasn't comfortable in the patio chairs and couldn't chase her around at all.  I was glad to have him around!!

 Riding the "horsey".

They would go down the slide.....

Eden would wait and help him up....

 grab his hand.............

 run back around.....

and do it all over again!

They had a ton of fun together!

Eden's Hiding Spot

Oh, this girl is a brat and a half!! lol!  This is one of her favorite things to do no matter how many times I tell her no!  This particular time she ripped one of my laundry bags all the way down the backside so it is pretty much useless now.  I decided it doesn't matter (this thing has lasted me over 12 years, miraculously!) and it is time for a new one.  So, when we move, it gets tossed out for sure!

Anyhow, this is her in action.  She loves to hang on the bars and flip around them.  Silly girl!
This is her "I'm not doing anything wrong" face!

Baby Shower!

On April 12th (yes, I am WAY behind on blogging) Trisha, Debbie, and Vanessa threw me a baby shower.  I had gotten rid of everything after Eden thinking she was my last and had nothing.  They had asked for a guest list and I had invited only people that were close to me and that I knew would come since I had went all out for the last baby girl shower.  The shower would be falling in a really busy time too so I wanted to keep in nice and simple for the ones throwing it for me too.  It was SUPER DUPER cute!! I loved the purple owl theme!  The decorations were amazing and everything was perfect.  Unfortunately, only three people showed up. :(  I was bummed mostly because I already felt like nobody cared that we were having a baby because it is our 7th and I was bummed that the Kelley girls had went to that much time and effort and then hardly anyone showed up.  But, I wanted to make the very most of it too.  It was awesome no matter how many people showed up and I really did get to celebrate with those who are closest to me too.  :)

Trisha made the Tastefully Simple Cinnamon muffins that are pretty much like the best muffins ever.  The whole menu was just perfect.  We had a really yummy fruit salad, little smokies....oh, and a really good punch!

Vanessa made some really cute stuff too!!! She made this cute little "bouquet of flowers" that was made out of baby washcloths!  Super cute!

The games were name suggestions and actually I got some really cute ones and funny ones too!! I saved them all!
And a guess the birthdate calendar that I saved for the baby book too....picture further down.

Another Vanessa creation....The sweetest little owl diaper cakes I have ever seen!
I was super impressed with them!

I love the bib on this one!! lol!

One of my very best childhood friends, Tuesday McLeod (now Carstens) was able to come over from Peoria to celebrate with me!  She and I had been pregnant pretty much the whole time together.  Her and her hubby had to do invitro fertilization to get a baby.  She was due on June 9th (I think)....after me.  Exactly one week after this photo was taken, her water broke and she had her baby EIGHT weeks EARLY!!!!!  Her and baby Kylie have been doing great though!  I was so happy she got to come to my shower though.  Me and her went to Grandpa John's cafe later to catch up with Kevin Condren a bit too!  I love spending time with my besties from high school....we don't get to do it often enough!

The Kelley Girls!  These ladies have become my go-to pals and those that I can confide in for just about anything!  I am lucky to have them in my life!

Trisha's gift for baby was a gorgeous hand made crotched quilt with matching headbands and monthly growth stickers for photos!  Love it!

This owl cup has become my "shake cup"!  Vanessa gave it to me.....along with a bunch of other cute stuff for the baby, lol!

Grandma Boyer showed up about half way through the party too!! I was happy she was able to make it.  She said she didn't want to miss it!

I got a ton of super cute stuff from everyone and I loved all of it!  Nothing got returned or anything because each and everything meant too much to me.  I was really feeling sentimental after all of it.

Me, Tuesday, and Brielle!  Brielle is Jed Hill's wife.  Jed is another bestie from high school.  But, Brielle and I have been getting much closer lately and I was beyond happy she made it to the shower!

Me and my mom-ski!  We don't see eye to eye on everything but, one thing is for sure, my mom would do anything for me and me for her.

Trisha snapped this cute shot of Tuesday's belly!  Good thing she got it then because Tuesday didn't have it much longer, haha!

And here is the pic of the birthday guesses!  No one guessed the actual date but, still something to keep forever!  Thanks so much everyone for everything.  It really means more to me that I can ever express because I am not real good at expressing those type of things.  But, yeah, you are all pretty awesome!

Chocolate Things

I was nursing the baby on the couch.  Cullen came over and gave her hugs and kisses.  Then he says:
"Mom, why did Heavenly Father put those chocolate things on your tummy?"
Bahahaha!  I told him that Heavenly Father put them there so I could feed my babies.  He said "Oh." and walked away.

Preparing For the Big Day

I am going to have this baby girl tomorrow.  Yep.  At my appointment on Monday Dr. Jones told me that Dr. Davis was wrong.  He had told us that the baby was only 6lbs. (for some reason, wth?!!?)  Nope.  She was 7.1 and that was two weeks ago.  Dr. Jones is thinking that she will be well over 8 lbs.  Normal for me.  He sent me to the hospital for a non-stress test and an ultrasound to measure amniotic fluid.  I guess both turned out fine, never heard back.  He also scheduled me to be induced on Thursday.  I am excited.  But, I really don't want to have pitocin.  It makes the contractions so much worse.  I had pitocin with half of my labors and there is a definite difference.  Oh well, the point is, she will be here!  We go tomorrow morning at 9am for pitocin and water breaking.  I am going to have Jeremy and Trisha there with me.  I am hoping between Trisha and I, we can get a ton of good shots to document my very last pregnancy.  It is going to be very bittersweet for me.
I had some more false labor last night.  This pregnancy has had the most false labor I have ever had.  I am much older now.  Who knows what the reason is....whatever it is, I am sick of it.  Today I woke up feeling like I hadn't slept at all.  I got the kids ready for school, packed lunches for field trips, signed forms, etc. and sent them on their way.  Then Eden and I laid down on the couch for some quality time with Blues Clues!  lol!  Debbie stopped by and I had to drag myself off the couch to answer the door, haha!  Now, I am trying to motivate myself to do the GAZILLION things I need to do today.  I feel like I have been hit by a truck.  I think I need some caffeine or something.
Jeremy is in Hannibal today too which always throws my whole day off.  He wanted to get it out of the way though, which I understand.
The kids are excited too!  Cullen keeps kissing my belly and telling the baby he loves her and can't wait to see her!  He is so sweet!  Eden rubs my tummy and says "baby in tummy" but, I'm pretty sure she is going to be shocked and amazed when we have a real, live baby! haha!
We still don't have a name for her.  This is gonna be hard.  Cullen is hooked on Vivianne.  Which is a name I really like but, I just don't know.  Anyway, I guess I should actually do something today although I would really like to just lounge around on the day before I go birth a baby.  It is hard work and I know I am going to be exhausted.  Oh well, life goes on as it always does and somehow we catch up.
