Our 72-Hour Kits and More

Last night we had family home evening.  Our lesson was on the council to be prepared with 72 hour kits in cases of emergency or disaster.  The kids had so much fun!  Tristan, Ced, and Liam all watch the survivor shows anyway and had lots of really good input!  We started out with very basic kits and decided that we would check them every six months to keep stuff current, add to, or make better!  The boys all got an old backpack....well Tristan is responsible for Cullen too since he can't carry one yet.  In in we put all kinds of good survival stuff like soap, toothbrushes and paste, lighters, toilet paper, bug spray, rain panchos, beef jerkey, trail mix, water, water purification, a whistle, flashlight, batteries.....really too much to list!  Anyway, we talked about the reasons we would ever use our emergency kits and what to do with the things we put in them.  It really went well and the boys are excited for next monday when we are going to do fire safety.  We have had a plan and a meeting place before but we haven't done that in this house yet.  Looking forward to next week!

Yesterday my mom and I went to Quincy to do some more errands and shopping.  We were talking about Tristan and how much he acts like my brother, Matt!  It's so funny because I had never really made the connection before and now I remember when I was little how Matt was then!  Too funny!  And look how he ended up....a blackhawk helicopter pilot!

So everyone else in the world had a snow day today.  Carthage didn't.  I guess the snow doesn't affect us.  I had planned a fun day for the boys but instead we just got to make a little peach flavored snow ice cream instead.  It was really good.  Even if I could only have a couple of bites because of weight watchers.  Which, by the way, isn't fun at all!  Dieting never is.....but neither is being fat! ha!  I finally bought myself a scale so I can do weight watchers the right way and actually weigh myself!  What's even more awful is that I have orders to bake almost everyday and it's all stuff I can't eat!!! Argh!  Tonight I'm gonna get my pics on here from the past month or so....there are A LOT!  So beware!!!! OR be excited!!!! Whichever suits you more!

Another topic is the Arizona shootings.....what a tragic and needless thing to happen!  My heart breaks every time I hear about that poor little girl that was killed and I can't listen to it anymore.  Especially after I heard today that the stupid Westboro Bible Church was going to protest at her funeral!!!! What an atrocity!! Hate breeds hate and that's exactly what they are doing!!! UGH!!!  No words are even awful enough to describe these people so I will just stop talking about them!
